He fastened the jet-black tie carefully in front of the full-length mirror on the inside of his wardrobe door. He sighed, biting his lip to prevent tears from streaming down his face, and swallowed in an attempt to get rid of the lump in his throat. He looked over at the various cards and gifts, from friends and fans alike, and felt his bottom lip tremble dangerously. Pete grabbed his eyeliner pencil from the maple desk next to him, and took a long time staring at the wood. My Smile's An Open Wound 5Pete sat on the chair the doctor had pulled towards him, shock causing him to grip Patrick’s hat as if his life depended on it. By some miracle, he had stopped crying. The doctor pulled a second chair next to Pete, and quietly sat himself onto it. “Peter….” Pete was slightly shocked at how his name seemed so distant, and looked at the doctor confusedly, having forgotten the doctors own name. My Smile's An Open Wound 3Patrick curled himself up as tightly as he dared, both hands clutching his stomach. He felt hot tears of fear and pain trickle down his cheeks, and he bit his bottom lip in agony. He slowly brought one blood-covered hand to his face, and whimpered pitifully. He averted his vision, which was blurred with horror, and was terrified to discover that there wasn’t another living thing around- not even an animal. “Pete….” He whispered, mustering the strength to pull his cell phone out of his pants pocket.
